LIVE OAK — Senator Bill Nelson showed his support for the revival of the Live Oak Amtrak stop on Friday, Oct. 28.
Senator Nelson was invited to Live Oak by the Chamber of Commerce and the City of Live Oak to speak about the potential stop.
Nelson said he has fond memories of riding Amtrak trains. When he was a young boy, he would ride the train from Jacksonville to Marianna to visit family in Chipley.
Nelson said there are a number of things Live Oak can do to persuade Amtrak to come.
“I will want you to come to Washington and give testimony and in addition, I will get Amtrak representatives to come here to see you as well,” Nelson said.
In the meantime, Nelson said Live Oak should work on their message and statistics to convince Amtrak Live Oak is a good location for a stop.
“We will give it everything we can,” Nelson said.
Nelson said he is working to make the Live Oak stop happen not only because it’s centrally located but because the people want the stop.
